Hello everyone (= Well, here’s a short history of how this Troop from the prestigious Victoria Institution was established and built over the past years. This First Kuala Lumpur Scout Troop is one of the oldest yet most renowned troops in the nation as many of the members of this troop have achieved success in various adventures. Almost every year, the Scouters would plan and go on challenging expeditions to bring up the Troop and the School’s name. This troop was founded by Headmaster B.E. Shaw on 15th of March 1909. As the years flew, the troop became stronger and gradually turned up to be the best troop in the State for a few years in succession. The first scout den, also referred to as the scouts’ “ Second Home “ was first built in 1929. This was a boost for the troop as the scouts had their own room to conduct their activities as well as store their equipments. However, this den was destroyed in 1941 as the shadow of war loomed over Malaya. After a few years, two of the Senior Scouts did their all to refurbish the troop that was broken apart due to the war. As the troop was rebuilt, many Scouters went on Expeditions such as the Klang and Perak River Expeditions and organized Gangshows to make the Troop more renowned. Later on, the troop had its first Campfire where many Scouts gathered to make it a success. This became a tradition of this Troop and till now, a Campfire is held every year in the School Quadrangle. The main activities that brought out the troop’s name are the expeditions to Mount Kinabalu, the highest peak in South East Asia, Mount Tahan, the highest peak in Peninsular Malaysia, Mount Ruapehu ( New Zealand ), Great Wall of China Expedition as well as the Thai Cycling Expedition. These expeditions really set a mark for the future members of this troop and makes them realize that this troop is no ordinary scouting movement. However, on the 28th of July 2007, the second Scout Den which was built in the late 70’s was burnt down. This incident broke the hearts of all the scouts. However, since then, we have been doing our best to raise funds for the new scout den which we hope will be built in a few years time. Inspite of this incident, all the agenda’s have been conducted as usual. Till then, all of us will do our best to live up the name of The First Kuala Lumpur Scout Group.
